Technical Claims Controller

Reporting directly into the Head of Claims, this is an exciting opportunity for a technical motor claims expert to join our rapidly growing business. Leading the strategic direction and focus on indemnity spend,  you’ll get the chance to truly put your stamp on the Claims function. Your role will be varied and although your primary focus will be around bodily injury, credit-hire and fraud, you will touch all areas of technical claims handling. This is a newly created role and the perfect opportunity for the right candidate to shape the role into something that adds significant value to our business.

What you need to do

  •  Create and implement technical claims strategies that lead to an improved indemnity spend within the claims area across both first party and third party claims
  •  Take responsibility for handling our most complex and highest value claims (excess of £100k+)
  •  Identify technical training needs and implement any relevant training
  •  Establish, monitor and review best practice for the Claims department
  •  Manage internal audit procedures to ensure optimum performance
  •  Implement strategies to assist the Claims team in identifying and handling potential fraudulent claims using SIRA and other available tools
  •  Optimise our current fraud strategy to ensure we hit and exceed our target detection rate
  •  Support the Claims Team Leader and Head of Claims with day to day departmental activity
  •  In unison with the Head of Claims, report and liaise with both the Coverholder and Underwriters on claims where the reserve exceeds £25k as appropriate
  •  Work closely with our Claims suppliers to improve performance in areas which directly impact our indemnity spend
  •  Keep up to date with market developments, emerging risks and technologies, industry best practice, competitor activity etc to ensure our strategies are effective
  •  You will not have any direct line reports however we are a small team and you will need to be able to influence and manage within  a matrix management set up
  •  Acquire and maintain knowledge and understanding of compliance and regulatory matters directly relating to your role

         Your Skillset

  • You will be a subject matter expert when it comes to motor insurance claims and will have expertise in all facets including bodily injury, credit-hire, fraud and recoveries
  •  You will have experience of dealing with MI with the ability to interpret and utilise its insight to drive performance
  •  You will be a strong communicator with the ability to build relationships with customers, third parties and suppliers
  •  Able to mentor junior members of the team
  •  Self-motivated but able to work well within a team
  •  A strong decision-maker who will ensure we comply with defined timescales and the latest claims handling guidelines and legislation
  •  Problem-solver
  • A working knowledge of process improvement and change methodologies (desirable)

         Experience

  •  5-10 years’ experience working in a motor claims environment with part of this time having been spent in a role with responsibility for creating, implementing and monitoring technical strategies

         Qualifications

  •  You will ideally be a graduate and Dip CII qualified (or working towards)
